This area in Northern WI is home to several large elk herds. The photo was captured shortly after passing the ELK CROSSING sign. They are banded by the DNR. The most common sightings occur in the spring of the year, when the sun hits and melts away at a small strip of ground, leaving a narrow band of grass for them to graze on.
